The Hotel’s Design & Location

Our first impressions of Hotel Tresanton were extremely good. Originally created in the 1940s as a yachtsmen’s club, Tresanton is a cluster of old houses on different levels; in the 1950s and 60s it became one of the best-known and best-loved hotels in Cornwall. In the 1960’s it became a hotel and in 1997 the Tresanton was bought and redesigned by Olga Polizzi.

We arrived later than intended and the hotel staff had lined the entrance to the hotel with candles – a very warm welcome. The location was stunning, Tresanton is a cluster of villages on the edge of St Mawes, which is one of the most beautiful fishing villages in Cornwall. All thirty rooms and suites  have a magnificent view of St Anthony’s lighthouse that stands nearby.  The interior design of the hotel was luxurious with beautiful nautical features and Cornish art.

Our Room

The room was sumptuous and had the most wonderful view of the sea. We spent some of the time boat watching from our window. All of the added details of a luxury hotel were in place for us to enjoy we had the option to order flowers and champagne to be delivered to the room on arrival. The bed so comfortable the only thing that got us up in the morning was the thought of a Tresanton breakfast if the dinner was anything to go by we were in very good hands. We absolutely loved our terrace and the fact that the hotel only has thirty rooms added to the overall intimacy.

Treatments

We were feeling daring and decided to try out the Apollo Awakening. This is when two therapists, who have been inspired by the nature of the waves, give you a four-handed massage. The two therapists work together in a wave-like flow that makes you feel completely regenerated. We were very impressed by the extent of the treatment list and the different options available. Having never experienced a four handed massage I would highly recommend it!!

The Restaurant

We were not disappointed like most of the hotel the restaurant really did have that wow factor. Even we were the last sitting for the evening meal on the night of our arrival all of the staff were so accommodating. Even though we were vegetarian and the menu at the time didn’t a huge amount of options. The restaurant staff tried their upmost to give us a culinary experience that we wouldn’t forget. The wine list was extensive and we had help on hand to pick out a wine to complement our meal. As we finished our meal and watched St Mawes Bay from our table we both let our a sigh of contentment. After the meal we enjoyed the log fire accompanied by a hot toddy all that was left now was to enjoy a peaceful nights sleep with the sound of the waved lulling us to sleep.

The Tresanton breakfast was magnificent. The vegetarian breakfast offered added extras that you don’t usually get from a standard vegetarian breakfast that included everything that you need to set you up for a walk to St Mawes church (the hotel even supplies complementary Hunter wellies for the coastal path)

The Beach Club was a perfect way to finish the day was a sundowner and a smile.

Special features

The beauty of Tresanton is they set the right atmosphere and can do as much or as little as you like.

You have the option to hire out the hotels 8 metre classic yacht Pinuccia. From May to the end of September, the hotel’s skipper can take you sailing around Falmouth bay. This area, which includes the estuary of the Helford and the Fal rivers, is one of the most beautiful and safe areas for sailing and boating in Britain. The hotel staff were on hand to arrange a picnic for us, which was an absolute delight. We had to snap up an opportunity like this and loved the back story of the yacht being built in 1939 to race for Italy at an international competition. That really did complete our whole stay.

If you prefer a shorter and faster sightseeing tour of Falmouth bay, we can arrange a speedboat for you.

Final Thoughts

The Tresanton Hotel is a luxurious hotel overlooking St Mawes Bay and magnificent. Olga Polizzi, the hotel’s owner and designer is a force of nature. She’s spoke to us about the history of the hotel to the present day and is constantly evolving the hotel’s design and had just bought a large garden in front of Tresanton right in front of the sea, which is completely unique and unlike any other hotel in the area.
