A forty five minutes practice a day

A regular daily practice is the cornerstone of yoga. A yoga practice every day sustained over time is far more effective than longer yoga practices done now and again. Of course, longer yoga practices can yield more powerful results, done regularly. A life enhancing practice can take as little as 45 minutes a day. Your yoga practice will be fitted to suit your current situation. Over time we can alter the yoga practice and progress step by step towards your goals. A daily yoga practice is a enriching experience. Also, one to one yoga sessions create an opportunity to correct problems that have arisen in class and have perhaps gone unnoticed.

A step towards overall Wellbeing

A yoga practice develops according to a plan. It progresses in steps, and will be constantly refined and reassessed over time. In this way we can improve fitness and wider health, but also address specific health matters and injuries. Yoga done in this way, will help to heal lifestyle issues, practical and psychological problems. The solutions offered to these problems are based on teachings found in the yoga scriptures and alive in this rich tradition of teachers, through our experience, insight and intuition. There is a supportive network of other highly experienced teachers who are applying yoga in this way.

One to one yoga sessions

Sometimes people often reason that they are too busy to go to the gym or work out at home. These people are at risk to various diseases caused by stress and sedentary lifestyle. As we know exercise helps the body cope with the stress of everyday life, as well as improve overall health. However, the demands of our daily lives increase rapidly as time goes by. These demands take away our time to take care of our health. One to one yoga sessions are the perfect solution.

yoga

The good thing about Yoga is that you can do it anywhere. You can do it in your office, in your room, or perhaps even in your car or inside the bus on your way home. For someone who is too busy at work, you can also do Yoga in your desk during your break.

Hold That Thought

A recent survey from the University of California calculated that we are bombarded with 34 gigabytes of information a day, including roughly 100,000 words (a figure that has doubled in the last ten years). The Future Laboratory talks about information anxiety (fretting about awaited emails) and stuffocation(the state of being overwhelmed by years of consumption). concentration

“In Britain, we work the longest hours and get the least done,” says the Future Laboratory’s Chris Sanderson. An “attention ecomony” has emerged where teh scarce commodity is human attention.

We can all concentrate well and do the job once. We’d leave work earlier. We’d also get more time for the pure pleasures in life like food and music. But avoidance, negative thinking and digital dependance and formed habits can take disipline to stop. Take a look below for a couple of tips to improving concentration;

Some tips on improving concentration

  • Practice Pranayama – Try out the Brahamri the Bee or Nadi Sodhana first thing in the morning to set you up for the day ahead.
  • Try out the five-more practice – Try reading for more than five minutes, write for five minutes.
  • Practice asana – Try out a yoga sequence to improve concentration.
  • Rest – Twenty-minute naps refreash the brain.
  • Go Rustic – Get out into the green and smell the flowers.

Escape to Italy

Described by many people as one of the most beautiful places on earth. From art to food, from stunning and varied countryside Italy has so much to offer. This is the country that brought us Slow Food, devoted to the promotion of fresh products and fine traditional, cooking.480px-italy_map_with_provincessvg2

With 44 sites, Italy has more Unesco World Heritage sites than any other country on earth. Its great cities of art, like Rome, Venice and Florence, have been attracting visitors for centuries. Milan is up and coming creating one of Europe’s  biggest and most modern trade fairs and is planning a major residential development, the CityLife complex, in the heart of the city. Venice, the city of romance, is possibly the city that has, in appearance, changed least down the decades but it has recently opened a sleek new bridge over the Grand Canal.

Alongside Italy’s art treasures, you’ll find plenty to keep you busy in the countryside. You can ski in the Alps and hike the Dolomites. But as much as all of this, a trip to Italy is about lapping up the lifestyle. Taking a moment with a coffee and people watching is all you need on a bright sunny afternoon.

Yoga Wellbeing – Meaning of Namaste

The gesture Namaste represents the belief that there is a goodness within each of us. The gesture is an acknowledgment of the soul in one by the soul in another. “Nama” means bow, “as” means I, and “te” means you. To put it simply Namaste means “I bow to you.”

namaste

How to perform Namaste

To perform Namaste, we place the hands together at the heart charka, close the eyes, and bow the head. It can also be done by placing the hands together in front of the third eye, bowing the head, and then bringing the hands down to the heart. This is an especially deep form of respect. Although in the West the word “Namaste” is usually spoken in conjunction with the gesture, in India, it is understood that the gesture itself signifies Namaste, and therefore, it is unnecessary to say the word while bowing.

Why do we perform Namaste?

For a teacher and student, Namaste allows two individuals to come together energetically to a place of connection and timelessness, free from the bonds of ego-connection. If it is done with deep feeling in the heart and with the mind surrendered, a deep union of spirits can blossom.

Ideally, Namaste should be done at the beginning and at the end of class. Usually, it is done at the end of class because the mind is less active and the energy in the room is more peaceful. The teacher initiates Namaste as a symbol of gratitude and respect.

Yoga pose of the week – Staff pose

Yoga Wellbeing step by step

staff_poseThe Staff pose(Dandasana) is a great pose to refocus on your alignment throughout your practice

1. Sit on the floor with your legs together and extended in front of your torso. If your torso is leaning back, it may be because tight hamstrings are dragging the sitting bones toward the knees and the back of the pelvis toward the floor. It may be helpful to sit on a blanket or a bolster to lift the pelvis.

2.A simple way to check alignment is to sit with your back against a wall. The sacrum and the shoulder blades should touch the wall, but not lower back or the back of the head. Put a small rolled-up towel between the wall and the lower back.

3. Sit towards the front of the sitting bones, and adjust the pubis and tail bone equidistant from the floor. Without hardening the belly, firm the thighs, press them down against the floor (or your support), rotate them slightly toward each other, and draw the inner groins toward the sacrum. Flex your ankles, pressing out through your heels.

4. To lengthen your front torso perpendicular to the floor, think of energy streaming upward from the pubis to the sternum, then down the back from the shoulders to the tail bone. Then imagine the tail lengthening into the floor.

5. Imagine your spine as the “staff” at the vertical core of your torso, rooted firmly in the Earth, the support and pivot of all you do. Hold the pose for one minute or longer.
